Steven Mitchell, economic development coordinator for the city of Carbondale, said the flights to Chicago will be huge for Southern Illinois. He would like to see the numbers creep upwards, back to 30,000. Recent years have seen 10,000 enplanements. He also said the airport had 30,000 enplanements in 1986 with air service from Ozark Airlines. "That requires the support of all of you, whether you just fly to Chicago or make connects through Chicago," Kimmel said. He also hopes to bring a second airline to the airport. Kimmel hopes the flights are so successful and draw enough riders to continue to operate without the federal subsidy. "We can apply for state money to facilitate the success of flights and to generate ridership," Kimmel said. That could improve the flow from northern Illinois to the Southern Illinois. He was approached by the mayors of both Carbondale and Marion to find out how they could get flights from Southern Illinois to Chicago.Ī study they had done showed that while many Southern Illinoisans want to travel north to Chicago, approximately eight times as many residents of northern Illinois want to travel south for business and pleasure. Kimmel also explained that the effort to bring flights to Chicago started after the last contract with Cape Air was awarded. The drive to Chicago of five or more hours is not an enjoyable drive. Louis and Nashville are their own worst enemies with drives of two hours and three hours. We want to make sure to get to 10,000 enplanements," Chaifetz said.Īirport Director Doug Kimmel said St. "What we want to do is to maximize enplanements. A flight or two could be changed to flights to Nashville if the community has a want for those flights. The airline will only offer flights to Chicago. It's a huge upgrade in service," he said.Ĭhaifetz said they have seen an increase in enplanements when replacing smaller planes, such as the nine-passenger Cape Air planes the airport used to use, with their Contour jets. "Our goal is to get people to try our service. Those departing would have to arrive at the airport at least 30 minutes before flights from Marion. Chaifetz said passengers will never pay more than $200 for a round-trip. Flights on the 30-seat jets are expected to run from $69 to $79 to Chicago. Introductory flights will be $59 each way to and from Chicago. "We look forward to having you aboard one of our flights beginning Aug. Chaifetz said each seat has 36 inches of legroom. The flights will be on Contour Aviation's Embraer ERJ-135 aircraft which will seat 30 passengers with legroom normally found in first class seats. while Sunday's departure will be at 3:25 p.m. The Saturday flight will depart at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday will have one flight per day. Flights will return to Marion at 10:05 a.m. DOT should accept the bid from Contour.Ĭhaifetz said they will offer two flights per day Monday through Friday to Chicago. In mid-February, the airport recommended that U.S. Veterans Airport accepted three service bids from Contour, Cape Air and Southern Airways Express. DOT essential air service program, and rebid the service. In November of last year, Cape Air filed a notice to terminate service at Veterans Airport, which was part of the U.S. The airport is currently served by Cape Air, which offers flights to St. "We're thrilled to be here and hope to be your carrier for years to come," Chaifetz said. The airline was awarded the contract for essential air service from the U.S. 25-MARION - Matt Chaifetz, CEO of Contour Aviation, announced that Contour will soon begin service from Veterans Airport of Southern Illinois to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago during a press conference on Tuesday morning at the airport.

The official Xbox Wireless Gaming Headset is a popular choice among fans of Microsoft's consoles, but it's not the only headset designed for the Xbox One. Accommodating many different budgets, each of the following Xbox One headset options offers powerful and dynamic sound and often are compatible with PCs and other gaming consoles. However, there are numerous headsets available for Xbox consoles that don't require added accessories and take still advantage of audio advancements like Dolby Atmos surround sound. Granted, the final hours don't fix everything. It was easy to judge this book by its cover, but seeing how the authors reached said cover, I couldn't help but walk away respecting everyone involved. Without spoiling the twists, by the time I reached the end, I was impressed by some of the clever narrative beats and how this dark tale reached its resolution. Then I hit the final few hours and it started to become clear that this laughable characterization was actually by design. Honestly, I was hating the Stranger of Paradise story. They do help out in combat, which I'll get to in a moment, but I could have done without the statements of the obvious, the half-hearted attempts at pathos, or the occasional lame attempt at humor. Their purpose seems to toss out banal observations more than anything. I couldn't tell you the first thing about Ash or Jed and even less about Neon and Sophia. There's zero depth to Jack's character and the rest of the game's supporting cast isn't really any better. That aspect of his character is spot-on to a laughable degree. Everything in the lead-up to this game's release about Jack wanting to kill Chaos is accurate. Jack is almost a caricature in how one-dimensional he is. It goes beyond lead character Jack, but he's the main problem. I didn't see the narrative as "so bad, it's good." To me, it felt like it was just bad. However, the more I played through this game, the less I saw what many of my contemporaries were seeing. After all, I've enjoyed my share of "so bad, it's good" stories and that seemed to be the consensus from some of my peers. As noted, I have made a lot of jokes at this game's expense, but I did walk into this with an open mind. (Edge) Lord of ChaosĪ lot has been said about Stranger of Paradise's story, characters, and voice acting quality. I came out of Stranger of Paradise loving certain aspects and disliking a few others. The longer answer is more complicated, almost chaotic. Is the final product really that bad, though? Sure, it's fun to mock it as "The Chaos-Killing Game," like I have for the past several months. It would be simple (and also unfair) to judge Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin by the trailers, the demos, and the endless memes. The expression "Don't judge a book by its cover" exists for a reason. You can use a regular DOM element, such as a and in that scenario, you would simply set the. Even through tears at Aron and her ex husband’s house in Monsey, meetings with Lais Ribeiro at the Elite offices, and lunch with Silvio that’s interrupted by a Louis Vuitton fitting, I still have questions about who Julia Haart is. But she holds her cards close, and maintains that armor which, I always hope, will be broken down in the next episode. However, Julia is stoic throughout the series, which seems counterintuitive-she’s putting her whole life on television, after all. She calls her husband Silvio “my love” exclusively. The show follows Julia-who left an Orthodox Jewish lifestyle in Monsey, New York to pursue a life of entrepreneurship and freedom-along with her husband Silvio Scaglia Haart, daughter Miriam, and sons Shlomo and Aron. I keep binging the series because I finish every episode with more questions than I began it with, and I’m convinced the next episode will answer those questions. But I don't necessarily watch it because I love it. This narrative device employed to pique interest certainly worked-I've been hooked on watching My Unorthodox Life ever since it came out on July 14. How is it possible that this was the start? There was no soft introduction, no gentle easing into getting to know the characters-just aerial shots of New York City (as any good reality series has) and a direct leap into the hijinks, with very little explanation. Did I miss something? I grabbed my remote and rewound to the beginning of the show. The three are seated at a table in Julia’s Tribeca apartment, discussing the young couple's sex life, as the matriarch delivers some advice on how to keep things lively. It doesn’t help that much of the mystery and intrigue that accompanied the concept from the previous “Bird Box” evaporates here. Outside of Sebastián, are any of them religious? Do they blame God for what happened? The film is in such a rush to create a quick binary between Sebastián’s mission and this group of people that it doesn’t bother to get us to care about them. Instead, we’re given their base-level tragedy and not much else. But that sense isn’t deeply felt in any of the characters. Their film says that the trauma wrought by grief might push you to lose your senses, decimate your logic, and maybe even make you go on a religious crusade. The script by the Pastors (with Josh Malerman's novel still an inspiration) skims the surface of grief. Nearly all of them have lost somebody, which makes them vulnerable when the creatures whisper in their ear with the voice of long-gone loved ones. The primary figures among Claire’s companions are Octavia (an underused Diego Calva), a lost German girl looking for her mother, Sofia ( Naila Schuberth), and an elderly couple, Isabel ( Lola Dueñas) and Roberto ( Gonzalo de Castro). She happens to be dressed in the same color scheme as Sandra Bullock in the first film, an all-too-on-the-nose attempt to recreate that magic. Before long, Sebastián discovers another group, this time led by the British-Spaniard Claire ( Georgina Campbell). Like many films, “Bird Box Barcelona” advertises itself as a narrative about grief, covering the subject in the blandest ways. Not only that, he gets a kick out of seeing the celestial orb that seems to float up to the heavens from the people who die. But in the meantime, we figure out the mythology that drives Sebastián: He believes these creatures are seraphs. It takes time before we learn exactly what happened. Seven months ago, Sebastián had a run-in with Barcelona’s version of that clan. Instead, they’ve formed a kind of cult around the creatures. "Bird Box Barcelona" takes inspiration from a tiny nugget from the first movie by Susanne Bier. Some people can look upon the creatures without later turning to self-harm. This version feels like it’s trying to reengineer the prior film’s success without any of the originality. The narrative now asks, “Is Sebastián the shepherd or the wolf?” While co-directors David Pastor and Àlex Pastor are intrigued by injecting religiosity into an apocalyptic narrative, their instincts lack flair or a point. If you’ve seen the first “Bird Box,” you know the deal: There are creatures that seem to live in the air, and when you look at them, they whisper your deepest desires to you so that you might die by suicide. While sleeping in the comforts of a depot, someone hijacks the bus they’re slumbering in, exposing everyone to the open. The group takes him in and mends his wounds. |
